Cold Weather Initiative

Nov 27, 2009

A Cold Weather Initiative has been put in place to provide access to emergency accommodation in the city centre area for entrenched rough sleepers who are not in regular contact with homeless services and who are sleeping rough during very cold weather.

The Cold Weather Initiative commenced on Wednesday November 25th 2009 and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

The following has been agreed in relation to the delivery of a Cold Weather Initiative for the forthcoming period.

  • The service hours will be from 8.30pm to 8.30am.
  • The service will operate an open door policy first come first placed.
  • Dinner will be provided for all service users in the evening.
  • Personal lockers will be available for all service users belongings.
  • An assertive outreach approach will be adopted by outreach teams with the key aim of preventing rough sleeping during the cold weather period.
